Claudia Welker began gardening with her grandparents at the age of six.
She quickly learned many of the secrets of successful horticulture as she
absorbed insights they passed on to her. Tips such as only
pruning bushes in months with an "R" is just one of the helpful hints that
Claudia shares with her clients as they watch their yards become a
favorite part of their homes.In 1967, Claudia attended the Art Institute of Pittsburgh, majoring in Design. After completing her schooling, she returned home to Cleveland, Ohio, where career opportunities in her field were unfortunately limited. But her fondness for gardening and landscape design remained a constant. In 1998, Welker
completed the Master Gardener course, which includes training in flower
and vegetable gardening, tree and lawn care, plant selection, weed, insect
and disease identification, landscape design, pest control, pesticide and
fertilizer use, and composting, recycling and mulching. (Read about

Myth.") Completing that course, Welker says, "seemed
